Marc McMorris et Megan Ginter remportent le RIDE Shakedown 2010 McMorris et Megan Ginter sont sortis grands vainqueur de l'édition 2010 du RIDE Shakedown, samedi, au Mont Saint-Sauveur. McMorris, originaire de Regina (Saskatchewan) et âgé de seulement 16 ans, remporte donc la bourse de 12 000$. Sébastien Toutant (L'Assomption, Québec), champion du RIDE Shakedown en 2009, et Eric Willet (Frisco, Colorado) méritent respectivement 3000$ et 2000$ pour leurs deuxième et troisième places de la finale masculine où 16 des 40 participants ont été retenus. Soulignons que les quatre premiers amateurs de la compétition masculine disputée vendredi se sont également classés en grande finale en conclusion de cette superbe fin de semaine où une foule de près de 25 000 spectateurs ont assisté deux journées de compétition.À la finale féminine qui regroupait cinq participantes, Megan Ginter (Carnation, Washington) est montée sur la plus haute marche du podium et a empoché 5000$. Lynn Neil (Salt Lake City, Utah) et Alexandra Duckworth, originaire de la Nouvelle-Écosse et résidente de Kingsburg (Californie), ont complété le podium en deuxième et troisième places, ramenant ainsi des chèques de 3000$ et 2000$ à la maison." Je n'ai pas très bien ridé et j'ai raté ma première descente en demi-finale, mais je me suis ensuite repris à ma deuxième descente pour finir en première place de la demi-finale ", a soutenu McMorris, qui a obtenu la faveur des juges grâce à son Backside 1080 Double Cork réalisé au Big Air et son Frontside Blunt slide 450 Out au Flat Bar. " J'étais donc confiant avant la finale, où j'ai fait les même manoeuvres, et cela a été payant! D'être sur le podium avec mes amis et coéquipiers, c'est vraiment super et je serai de retour l'an prochain, c'est certain! "Quant à Megan Ginter, elle a pris une sérieuse option sur la victoire en étant la première planchiste féminine de l'histoire du RIDE Shakedown à réaliser un 720 sur le Big Air, pour ensuite enchaîner avec un 5050 Frontside 180 Out sur le rail Flat Bar." Je suis vraiment contente ! " a expliqué la gagnante, qui est âgée de 22 ans. " Cette compétition est vraiment le fun et c'est sans parler de l'ambiance qui règne. C'est un peu plus relax qu'un slopestyle normal, alors c'est parfait pour y aller à fond. Une chose est sûre : je reviendrai ici en 2010. "Entre la demi-finale et la finale, la foule a pu assister à l'électrisant spectacle de la mi-temps Push.ca où 15 skateboarders professionnels ont dompté le rail Down Flat Down. Thomas Parent, de Brossard, a reçu la faveur du public grâce à son 50-50 backside 180 out, ce qui lui a valu la bourse de 2000$." C'est le plus important RIDE Shakedown que nous avons organisé jusqu'à maintenant, tant pour le nombre de participants que pour le nombre de spectateurs ". a déclaré Brendan O'Dowd, président de Productions DIZZLE et co-organisateur du RIDE Shakedown. " Nous avons maintenant un rayonnement international et cela se constate avec le nombre de riders qui viennent de partout dans le monde. L'impact se voit aussi dans la foule : il n'y a plus seulement des ados, mais aussi des familles et des gens de tous les âges qui veulent voir des descentes spectaculaires. Et avec une telle météo, nous ne pouvions pas demander mieux! "L'édition 2010 du RIDE Shakedown est celle où le contingent américain a été le plus important. Une des raisons est que l'événement a été présenté à Seattle, le mois dernier. Il n'a pas fallu beaucoup de temps à la communauté du snowboard pour constater qu'il s'agissait d'un événement de calibre international, alors plusieurs athlètes ont fait le voyage au Mont Saint-Sauveur. Et avec la météo exceptionnelle de cette année, gageons que les Américains seront encore plus nombreux l'an prochain, alors que le RIDE Shakedown fêtera son dixième anniversaire. McMorris a native of Regina, Saskatchewan and only 16 years old, will go home with the $12,000 purse. Sébastien Toutant (L'Assomption, Quebec), champion of the 2009 RIDE Shakedown, secured second place and $3,000 in prize money, while Eric Willet (Frisco, Colorado) won $2,000 for his third place finish in the men's finals, where 16 of the 40 semi-final participants were selected to compete. All four amateurs that qualified on Friday for the Pro semis managed to secure a spot in the finals to conclude a fantastic two-day competition that attracted a crowd of nearly 25,000 spectators.The women's finals consisted of the top 5 riders from the semis with Megan Ginter (Carnation, Washington) claiming first place and a $5,000 prize. Lynn Neil (Salt Lake City, Utah) walked away with 2nd place and $3,000, while Alexandra Duckworth, originally from Nova Scotia and currently residing in Kingsburg, California, finished third and won herself $2,000.“I didn't ride as well as I wanted, and I missed my first run in the semis. But then, I got back on track for my second run and I finished first,” explained McMorris, who impressed the judges with his Backside 1080 Double Cork on the Big Air and his Frontside Blunt slide 450 Out on the Flat Bar. “I went into the finals feeling pretty confident. I landed the same tricks and it paid off! It's great standing on the podium with my friends and fellow riders. I'll definitely be back next year!”As for Megan Ginter, she took a major gamble by being the first female snowboarder in the history of the RIDE Shakedown to perform a 720 on the Big Air, followed by a 5050 Frontside 180 Out on the Flat Bar rail.“I'm thrilled! said the 22-year-old champion. “The competition itself is so much fun, not to mention the great atmosphere here. It's a bit more laid back than regular slopestyle, so it's a great opportunity to really let loose and give it your all. One thing is sure: I'm coming back in 2010.” Between the semi-final and final rounds, spectators were treated to the mesmerizing Push.ca half-time show.  This featured 15 professional skateboarders landing tricks on the Down Flat Down rail. Thomas Parent of Brossard won over the crowd with his 50-50 backside 180 out that earned him $2,000 in prize money.“It's the largest RIDE Shakedown yet, in terms of both the number of riders and the number of spectators,” explained Brendan O'Dowd, President of Dizzle Entertainment and co-organizer of the event. “We now have international presence and that's why we're seeing riders from around the world. The crowd has changed, too. It's not just teenagers anymore, but families and people of all ages, who come to watch spectacular performances. And with this great weather, we really couldn't ask for anything more!”With the launch of the RIDE Shakedown in Seattle last month, the 2010 Canadian edition of the event attracted the largest contingent of U.S. riders so far. The snowboard community in the U.S. has quickly realized that the RIDE Shakedown is an international level competition, which explains why so many athletes made the trip to Mont Saint-Sauveur.
